Christi Salisbury Howell, violin

Christi Salisbury Howell holds a Bachelor of Music in violin (2006) from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University; pursued violin studies at the Eastman School of Music (1997-2000) with Mitchell Stern and Ilya Kaler; and studied privately with Manhattan School of Music violin teacher Burton Kaplan (2002-2003.) She was a violin teacher on faculty at the Monmouth Conservatory of Music in Red Bank, New Jersey (2001-2007) while working with mentor and noted teacher Irina Kowalsky.


Now in Lynchburg since 2007, Christi is active as a teacher and performer. In addition to her private studio at Salisbury Strings, Christi is a member of the Roanoke Symphony, concertmaster of Roanoque Baroque, assistant concertmaster of the Lynchburg Symphony, 2nd violin in Liya String Quartet, and a freelancer with numerous organizations in Central/South West Virginia  In June 2017 Christi entered the world of historically informed music practice by studying Baroque performance at Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute and since enjoys performing with the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra and Roanoque Baroque on baroque violin as well as doing solo performances such as a recital showcasing Bach's D Minor Partita in March of 2020. In 2019 she founded Blue Ridge Baroque to bring historical music performed on period instruments to Lynchburg and its regions.  


She resides in Lynchburg, VA with her husband, two step-children and their dog.
