Private Violin Lessons

Salisbury Strings offers 30 minute, 45 minute or hour of weekly private instruction.  We draw upon our own skill, education and repertoire as well as that laid out in the Sassmannshaus, Maia Bang, Soloists for Young Violinists and Suzuki Methods. For the advancing student repertoire ranges from Bach to Kabalevsky and applicable etudes and scales are assigned according to development.

Scale Class - Music Theory - Aural Skills

We encourage our students to enroll in scale class, music theory and aural skills to develop a solid technique and understanding of music.  Scale class covers the Galamian Scale System Book 1 and students will be able to play from memory all 3 octave major and minor scales and arpeggios. In theory class students will use a college level textbook and begin to understand compositional complexities by learning about key signatures, meter, intervals, chords and counterpoint.  In aural skills class students will learn to sight sing with solfege, perform complex rhythm drills and dictate melodies and chord progressions on paper.

Masterclasses - Recitals

Students have the opportunity to be coached by and observe master teachers on four special occasions during the school year.  Salisbury Strings believes in the importance of gaining insight from other teachers' perspectives.  Attending masterclasses are highlights of the year.  Past teachers have included Gina DiCarlo, Yevgeniy Dovgalyuk, Joe Nigro and Luca Trombetta.

Salisbury Strings hosts two annual recitals per year and typically one themed recital project for advanced students such as the all Kreisler rectial in 2018 and 6 Handel Sonatas with cello and harpsichord accompaniment in 2017.

Chamber Music - Orchestra - Capriol (Adult Ensemble)

Salisbury Strings facilitates chamber music development by pairing or grouping violinists with other instrumentalist from other studios.  Currently Salisbury Strings does not offer a youth orchestra program because of the excellent ensembles already thriving, namely Lynchburg Junior Strings, the Lynchburg Symphony Youth Orchestra and public and private school orchestras.

We are delighted to offer a weekly adult ensemble named "Capriol" which meets Tuesday evenings at 5:30.  No audition is required, but the student should be able to read music.  Past performed repertoire includes Capriol Suite, Mozart Divertimento No. 1, Gershwin Lullaby, and solo selections from various members.  We currently welcome all instruments but especially need violas and cellos.  Come on out and join us!
